What do you think about when you hear Colombia and Medellin? After spending half a year on and off there we can safely say that whatever images or words that come to mind, are completely outdated by at least 10-15 years. It is very evident that Medellin is in the middle of a quick flourishing transformation process where they put innovation high on the agenda. The city has done several large infrastructure investments and the whole place feels very vibrant and ready for more. There are of course many challenges for this city but the ambition and will to change is here. And yes, Medellin just won a prize for being the most innovative city in the world.
Our client Ruta N is responsible for the innovation system in the city and has numerous and very practical ways to strengthen the innovation capabilities of the city. The organization is funded by the municipality of Medellin. It goes without saying that we are very proud to be part of this transformation.
One of our assignments at the moment is an ambitious Innovation Manager Program. The goal is to build new skills and initiate an innovation culture strategy in the participating companies. The participants consist of 45 innovation managers from some of the largest companies in Medellin. This is a 6-month program with six full weeks of training and workshops on site and online coaching meetings in between the sessions. On the sideline of the program the participating companies are working with their internal innovation culture and we check in with them during the sessions and during the online coaching. The first class will graduate in the end of May 2013. And the best company will then be guided by us on a grand Scandinavian Innovation Tour meeting companies like Ericsson, Rovio (Angry Birds) and Media Evolution City.
