Want a Nobel Prize?

Of all the acknowledged prizes around the world, there is only one that has the unofficial title: World Championship in creativity and knowledge... The Nobel Prize. So of course one way of finding out how to be creative is to study the winners of the Nobel Prize and see if there are any solutions to be found. The Swedish professor Gunnar Törnqvist did just that. Here is some of what he could decipher...

1. Moving around is good for your creative spirit and innovative potential! Very few of the award winners were born where they created their big deeds. They kept moving and picking up parts of the puzzle here and there. So hit the road, Jack!

2. 20 % of the Nobel Prize winner's were Jewish. So if you want become a prize nominee, maybe you should change religion?

3. Studies of the winner's biographies showed that a demanding it was common with a home environment where a good education and intellectual success was honored. So stimuli as well as discipline are part of the recipe!

4. Many award nominees came from families where the bonds were strong and the mothers usually functioned as strong, driving forces of keeping the family together. So maybe everybody should look into a matriarchical approach at home?!

5. Hierarchical structures are not good for the creative process. The climate and structure where the winners found solace was in flat, flexible, almost messy organizational forms.

6. As shown above the English speaking western hemisphere is also dominating the award list. So please write in English and stay close to wealthy west. At least for a while more... when does China move into the lead with its new army of research?

That seems to be the essential. For starters on earth you have approximately one chance in 1.07 billion to win per year (6.4 billion people divided by six prices each year). Get 6 out of 6 of the above and your chances has grown a lot!

So what are you waiting for? 770 persons has gotten the prize so far - is it your turn next?

It was a great premiere night that took place in Malmö the 13th of May when Minc celebrated two years of existence and also opened the newly created Innovation Lab. Together with the fine architects at Testbed studio we have designed a functionalistic innovation lab for the Malmoe incubator Minc. The innovation lab is structured around the five general phases of idea management. The five rooms of the lab are designed for the specific needs in each phase. The Lab is open for hire from now on so please contact us if you need a creative space to work in for a day or two. The space is estimated for maximum 10 people, which is also of course the maximum for a group with one facilitator in a creative process.
